Where I find time, geez, I used to have more time, when I was a student :P Weekends I guess. Next weekend I'm out so maybe the one after :P. Guess I need to know soon whether my bf wants to be Mr Tumnus in october so I can start on that queen dress now . Btw, as it is well available to me, I think I'll make the crown of foam and latex.

I have yet to read Julia's stories. As for selling costumes, well nearly everyone I know makes costumes by themselves so there's not much of a market for it here either.

Well, I've got a little update

My boyfriend is forgoing a performance as Mr Tumnes due to his joints problem. He's got bad joints and can't walk like a faun for long. The costume contest means you have to do an act, then come back with the other contestants and stay in character quite a while, while the jury decides the winners. I might do Snow Queen solo, with turkish delight and Within Temptation's Ice Queen blasting into the hall

Other plans: I'm going to a LARP event called Kingdom of Argyll from june 30th till july 2nd. I'll be playing a medieaval noble woman. I'm thinking of making a beautiful red dress. She's a kind of seductress and manipulator, inspired on those Roman upper class women from series like I, Claudius and Rome.

Sadly, a couple of weeks ago, my Laiquendi character (origin of the Laiquendi in the Shadowrifts world is based on Elves from Middle Earth) was killed senselessly, so I had to revert to my backup character, a native Elf who is a scholar and bureaucrat. On Shadowrifts, it is always useful to have a new character as backup so you can resume playing pretty quickly. My new backup is a Kin Sei (the Japanese Samurai of the Shadowrifts world) so I'll be making a basic outfit (hakama+kimono) and a katana. I nearly have everything I need to create all this, except for foam. Camping gear is not widely available right now as it is out of season. I'll be able to check a camping store tomorrow as it is the first sunday of the month and the stores will be open (normally closed on sundays here because of some christians).

And another great development: recently a store has opened nearby which sells larp weapon building materials like glassfiber cores, latex, paint etc. They have workshops as well. I won't have to order any of this stuff anymore from a shop two hours travelling away. Aside from a katana, I'll be making a walking cane for my Argyll character for her to cast magic. I think larp weapon versions of the weapons seen in LOTR are very useful as part of a warrior costume because you don't have to use frail materials like clay, wood and stuff, you don't have to get an actual replica and they are safe for fighting (within certain combat rules). With proper maintenance they're also quite durable. The only disadvantage of glassfiber is that it can't be bent, but if you cut the foam at te tip of your blade into a slight curve, your weapon will look curved after all.

An update from me

I've finished my Kin Sei outfit (though I may have to shorten the sleeves of my kimono) and weapon (still need a sheath for it though) and I've got the foam on my magic cane but no real idea on how it's going to look but I have plenty of time to decide that.

I am planning to get a stand on the Queensday free-market here along with a friend (who is mad about cosplay and professional taylor and make-up artist). All there is to it is getting a spot in the free market zone. Basically the only rule is not selling food of any kind. I may be making little note books with all kinds of different covers and perhaps a few spellbooks.
